Removing barriers to learning

What is the iCept App?

iCept is an iPad app for testing & training critical aspects of visual & auditory processing. Testing is FREE and a report can be generated that provides training recommendations. If training is required an account can be set up and purchased within the app. Further sessions can also be added at no extra cost. How Can iCept Help?

Studies show that training sensory processing skills, especially in the visual domain, can greatly assist with learning. This is because vision is highly connected to the region in the brain where decoding & sight word reading begins. Unlike eyesight however visual processing continues to develop through school so any delay will impair reading fluency. Fortunately, this can be improved with regular training taking around 10 mins/day.

TESTIMONIALS

Tineke, Learning Support Co-ord

“I have been supporting students with the ICEPT programme for several terms now and the results I am seeing are amazing. Since doing the ICEPT program, I have seen remarkable improvement.  All of the students on the programme can now track from left to right and have an awareness of left to right.  They are having greater accuracy with their tracking and aren’t losing their place as easily. Teachers have also noticed an improvement in students fluency and reading abilities.  Memory and sequencing is improving too.  Students are starting to hear the difference between sounds, and the list goes on.  Aside from the development with processing skills, I have also seen a big improvement in confidence and self-belief.  The students are seeing and feeling improvements as their barriers reduce, increasing their confidence and encouraging them to participate more within the classroom.  Students are telling us that they are able to concentrate better in class too as a result of doing ICEPT.

Paige, Student 10 yrs

I enjoy ICEPT. It helps me. I see a big improvement in doing both Alpha to Omega and ICEPT because I find it much easier to spell now. I don't struggle as much with writing and reading either. I still have trouble reading lots of words, but I definitely feel better now since I've been doing ICEPT. I feel a lot more confident about myself as a learner too.

Jim, School Principal (Prim & Int)

ICEPT training continues to have a very positive impact on the visual and auditory processing skills of our learners, which is leading to significant improvements in literacy achievement and self-esteem. The programme is well targeted to meet the specific needs of individual students and is easily integrated into our Literacy programmes.

Ethan, Student 9 yrs

I enjoy doing ICEPT. I don't lose my place as much when I read.

Julie, Parent

My son Aidan has multiple learning issues due to auditory and visual processing delays and memory issues. Following his iCept exercises, I have noticed an improvement in his reading fluency, speed and confidence. Although he is still below national standards for reading, I feel he is making progress.  Since entering Intermediate school, he has been reassessed by his new teacher and is at National Standard for maths.”

Nikki, Teacher

I have noticed a huge improvement in confidence both in personality and  willingness to share work. There is an increase in independence too. It has had such a positive impact in the classroom. I definitely recommend the programme and I fully support it, even just in terms of how much it has improved confidence in the students that do the programme.

Over the last 4 years we have tried numerous things to help our son with his learning and concentration issues. Extra Tutoring, Holistic therapy, you name it we tried it. None of these worked for him. We then discovered that when reading his eyes didn’t flow along and seemed to jump lines, after discussing this with his year 6 Teacher, we looked into an Optometrist that specialized in this type of problem. We then undertook the ICEPT Training Program at the beginning of his last term at Primary School.  We noticed changes in his concentration after him completing the first module, the more he progressed through the program the more he improved, he set his expectations to beat his score on his previous session. As with any 12 year old, the on-line approach was the winner, playing games that help you, what a concept. When he went to Intermediate his results were well below National Standard, it was suggested by his Primary School that he was placed in a class for Children with Learning issues. We had him placed mainstream, as we could see how he was improving, after each ICEPT module he completed. The report that came home this week places him at National Standard Level, a great improvement from a child they recommended be in a learning assist class. The results from his first to his last ICEPT assessment show he has gone well above his age expectations. We have all noticed the difference in him at school and at home. I have no hesitation in recommending this program to any parent with a child having difficulties concentrating or learning.  We have spent numerous dollars to try and help our Son; this is a well-priced option that really works.

I feel that Shaun [age 14yrs] has made improvements with his schoolwork, upon receiving his progress report he is at expected curriculum level or slightly above for all subjects. He just told me a few weeks ago that his reading has improved but not sure by how much whether it was a level and a half or a year and a half in age group for reading. He also receives an hour session one on one for his dyslexia once a week at school and I am happy with his progress.

Sue, Teacher Aide

Since I have been involved in ICEPT, I have noticed huge improvements in the children's learning across the children I teach. For all the years I have been a teacher aide, what this programme works on finally makes sense. I've always been able to see that something is not working for some kids but have never known why. Working with the ICEPT programme and addressing visual and auditory processing problems has resulted in huge improvements. The children doing the programme are also engaged in it, which can't be said with a lot of other programmes we do.

Ming, Optometrist

We have been using the iCept programme now for 5 years and have found it to be a fantastic tool. If the programme is completed fully as prescribed our patients show a marked improvement in their visual processing and increased school performance, particularly with their reading and writing.

We had teacher interviews this week so thought I would wait to talk to his teachers about his progress first. Tai [age 7] has been doing really well at school this year in Year 3. He is well ahead of where he needs to be in reading and is currently reading above Year 4 level. His handwriting has improved and he is now writing smaller and on the lines and working towards the level he should be at. His maths and instant recall have also improved and he is where he should be in Year 3. He has been able to concentrate more in class but still gets easily distracted and needs to work on getting started more quickly. He is currently going back and doing the training again and has improved on the Eye Track: Voluntary which seems to work in with his reading and handwriting improving. He is currently doing the visual count which he finds really hard but I have noticed his maths improving while he has been doing this as he has been trying to take snap shots in his head of the images.  I thought I would mention also that Tai took part in the PIANO study at the Liggins Institute at the Auckland University in January where he underwent a series of tests due to his prematurity. He had some vision and eye tracking tests by an optometrist in the university eye clinic and they were very pleased with the training and care Tai is receiving. We are very happy with the results we are seeing. I definitely think the training has made an improvement and I think he will continue to progress if we keep him on the programme.
