The iCept App
The iCept app is FREE to download from the App Store (search "icept testing") and includes both a testing and training. Testing is FREE which takes about 40 minutes to complete and a report is generated with any training recommendations. If required, a training license can be purchased which lasts for 10 years. Note that schools can register to become a multi-license holder by creating a multi-license account. This enables bulk licenses to be purchased at a much lower cost per student in addition to monitoring tools and the option of computer training.
3 Point Check Test
The 3 Point Check Test of near vision is a screening test for schools suitable for ages 7 to 17 years. The test can be completed in 1 minute and checks that near vision is clear, single and steady. It is estimated that between 5 to 15% of students at school have a near vision problem which often goes undetected. Good near vision is essential for academic learning and also prior to doing the iCept training. If a problem is found then a referral to an optometrist is advised. The test includes a near fixation stick, a fixation wand, a pair of blue tinted lenses & a pair of +1.25D clear lenses. It also has a form for recording your findings and instructions on how to administer it.

A four part series on Visual & Auditory Processing suitable for teachers & teacher aides is given by Stuart Warren, the developer of the iCept app and optometrist with over 20 years experience in this field. The presentations focus mainly on visual processing and cover both testing and training using the iCept app. It covers why we need interventions such as iCept, the latest neuroscience linking vision to reading & evidence for training.
